My husband attended 3 Canberra auctions last weekend, all southside, all passed in way under reserve. All had the same people bidding, the pressure to make an offer from the agents on my husband was huge, this was last Saturday, all properties are still for sale today.

Doubt

...which is basically a marketing mechanism for making people think twice about their intended course of action (to buy product XYZ) and instead, consider your product. In the case of auctions, it's intended to make people concerned enough that they fail to bid, or at least develop a sudden lack of confidence, thereby effectively removing them from the competition.
