Cement rendering (baging bricks)

Has anyone had an older brick house bagged and painted. I have a dark brown brick house that I would like to dress up.

It's only 500 meters to the beach so I want to give it beachy feel. I am interested in what it would cost $/sq meter.

I welcome other suggestions

Thanks in advance

Hi, Greg

This may not be much help, but by the looks of it, any local 'brickie' should be able to quote you, perhaps even over the phone. Try your local papers.

We once had a rendered finish (well, a swab over with a sloppy cement mixture applied with a soft bristled house broom) applied to a new house, and the 'render' wasn't very thick, but allowed the bricks to be painted which was the original intention.

True render comes up like true plaster - really even and smooth, or finished in a pattern. Our slosh and go method worked just as well, although I have the suspicion that we paid for a higher standard than that which we received.

Anyway, here's Burke's Backyard (cut and paste)

Hi Greg,
Don't know where you are but I am in Brissy so definitely not to close to the beach.
Hubby is a R.Estate agent, through his contact with clients and builders etc i can give you a real rough estimate.
We were speaking of it only yesterday - three bed post war in Brissy is charged around $7,000 - $8,000 for a full and proper render by professionals. Lots of variables I am sure, hope that gives you an idea
Have fun in the surf

Denise

Thanks for your reply, your number give me a ball park figure to work on.

The place is on the central coast of NSW, a small town called Hawks Nest.

What was your hubby's estimate of the uplift in value you would achieve following the render?

As an aside, if one had an old 70's Cream Brick home and you wanted to give
it a "Bluestone Cottage" front, is it possible? Are there lightweight panels
that can be attached?

Regards,

Duncan.

I also have a house, but it is not on the beach, but early eighties yellow cream brick (out of fashion and looks worn. I would also be interested any nice front dressing.
Any suggestions? I am not too artistic.

Just a suggestion ...

Have a look at the Dulux product AcraTex. Does a fantastic job on bricks, changes the old fashioned look to a modern rendered attractive texture.

Has several advantages over conventional cement/sand render :

will cover most surfaces including hardiflex/brick transitions to form a uniform surface.

acrylic - so its flexible & sticks like ...

colourfast - no need for further painting

trowels on easily to cover brick surfaces - but needs a second rolled on coat for a very nice finish

disadvatage is that it is reasonably expensive - cost ???

btw - i don't work of Dulux !!
