claiming cost of maintenance on a property you are renting.

I have a question regarding the legibility of claiming back the costs of maintenance of a property you are renting (to live in). If you are renting the house you live in while renting out the houses you own, can you claim for any maintenance on the rented house if your landlord takes too long to get their act together?

Hi

No, the cost of the maintenance does not directly relate to your income from the IP and as such you cannot claim the cost as a tax deduction.

Sorry.

Dale

ps however, if the rent that you pay can be attributed tot he work that you do, this may open up an opportunity . . .

Thanks Dale,

Unfortunately the rent that I will pay is not work related, rather lifestyle related so I doubt I will have that opportunity after all.

Oh well, I guess I won't be doing any maintenance on the house I hope to rent.

Nat.
