In 1987 there was scepticism when the former Labor Prime Minister, Bob Hawke said, "by 1990 no Australian child will be living in poverty". This did not ring true (to me) when he said it........and your comment above even less so.

It is basic math. If 10% price growth continues, most young families will end up living in caravans or cars.

Basic math will tell you how much money these families are wasting on the "essentials", and the reason for them struggling.

eg Foxtel $80/mth, Ciggies/Beer $150/mth

Maybe some of these families are the same dopey ones that voted Labor and Greens to save the planet from warming. So living in caravans or cars will be just their contribution to saving the planet. ;-)). Win-Win.

In the year 2020, thanks to property speculation and continuing 10% growth most children will be so poor they won't be able to afford books anyway.

Perhaps the type with your kind of attitude, who expect to be handed things on a platter (and the general lazy and "need to have it now" Gen Y's currently). But there are many who were brought up with good financial management skills by parents, and there are 1b+ chinese as well who were brought up as savers.
