Correct way to forward an email without become the target of spam?

That is such an awesome idea Strannik... next time I get some junk mail I'm going to run it through the photocopier 30 times and forward it to everyone I know.

It does sound absurd doesn't it? However for whatever reason with e-mails people seem to not think that way. They feel there is a need to forward spam to everyone in their address book.

At the moment about 90% of all e-mail traffic is junk mail. People need to start thinking before they press "Forward" button". I think there needs to be "Are you sure this is worth forwarding?" prompt added to the forward button in e-mail clients, so people stop and think.

All of a sudden I am getting 2-3 different versions of the nigerian scam. Is there anyway to stop this, does not opening it stop it. Do they have a "doover" (technical label) for knowing who has opening it? Can I bounce it back at them. I just don't open anything from addresses I don't know

they don't
nothing will stop it but spam filter

although some e-mails seem to be seasonal

different people also tend to get different kind of e-mails, i usually get penis enlargements, knock off watch and cheap medications, but i never get those scam letters

Yes, I get all those (caught by my spam filter), but I'm also getting quite a few from my prospective Russian bride the past couple of weeks, complete with photos with irregular pink lines over them... anybody else getting those?

Ozperp and Strannik, I am getting exactly what you are getting, all caught by my free Spamfighter, one day 33 of the little blighters first up in the morning.

I think that this will stop other people getting spam, but won't necessarily stop you from getting spam.

We recently put an ad on Seek.com.au using an email address that is not used as part of our normal business. The email address does not get advertised on the seek add, but it works like the PM system here, except that seek sends the message to the nominated email address rather than to a PM box. So no-one ever sees the email address.

Well, from that day one we have been spammed relentlessly from a 'look alike' seek email address asking us to confirm our account details. At first we thought we needed to reply; we contacted seek and their website has been hijacked  Nice security guys, NOT! Anyway, they have stopped again now.

OzPerp, my hubby is getting those Russian emails

I always like the ones titled 'About last night' when he is away on a business trip:eek:

Yes, I often wonder what effect these kind of emails would have if found by wives who don't understand spam...

I'm getting everything. Penis enlargements, viagra, medications, watches, russian brides, nigerian scam. You name it, I get it. At work I get a lot in foreign languages too.

Gets a bit monotonous after a while.

Dave I'll get hubby to look into the Optus thing for me. I don't really understand how to do any of that stuff.

If I download that, will everything else stay the same? Will the addressed emails get through & all my bookmarks work properly?

Should do, Skater. Another vote from me for Thunderbird - I changed about three years ago, and it is brilliant.

Yep it will have no effect on other settings.
When you install it it will ask you if you want to copy everything from outlook.

How do I get some Junk email?

I have never had the nigerian scam or the viagra or any others

I feel left out.

I use outlook express and have AVG free and thats it.

Dave

I do get spam, but I use MailWasher to blacklist as much as possible for quick and easy deletion. It doesn't always work all that well with Hotmail, and soon probably won't work with it at all (MS has changed the interface), but it works fine with POP3 accounts including Gmail.

I use the Pro version here, but there's also a more limited free version here (I think it only supports one email address and has ad-banners).
