Piratebay, Wikileaks, various Anonymous sites are currently being systematically hit by DDoS (distributed Denial of Service) attacks which are taking their websites down by force. Anonymous hacktivists were thought to initially behind this, however Anon sites are also being attacked. Reports are that the DDoS is huge in scale, registering hits from thousands of IP's.
Earlier this year a conglomeration of Music and Movie Producers (Sony Universal etc.) contracted a private company to maliciously upload fake files into the torrent network, tracing back individuals IP's. They also put thousands of crawlers out to leech off any open torrents, to drain their usage. I'm guessing after PB, Anon and the like have been consistently lobbying the social scene during the CISPA, PIPA saga, pointing out flaws with the legislation (namely Govt. and private Co. powers to hit websites without a day in court, legal threats etc.) must have upset a certain few people.
