Does anyone rent by choice?

Hi, just be careful with claiming rent as a deduction. The tax office do have guidelines that they are looking for and it's a little more involved than simply doing some work at home.

See here, here, and, here.

True. Which is why it's important to have an iron clad rental agreement which clearly states a specific amount for the rental of an office area and another agreement for the domestic component.
I, essentially, run a property management business which requires dedicated office space and space for document storage (who knew IP's generated so much paperwork). This business generates more gorss income than my day job, so it's not hard for me to justify the expense at all.

Thanks for all your responses. Am thinking I might pursue the renting path.

One of the best things about renting is that it's easy to change your mind either by buying or renting somewhere else. Living in a PPOR greatly diminishes the ability to choose without significant financial impact. IMHO, you're on the right track.
