Does sub-division DA = permission to build a semi-detached duplex?

If I have my terminology right, semi-detached duplex being a house that is generally symmetrical but physically separated by a big wall.

Anyway if someone has DA to sub-divide does it also translate to building a semi-detached? Or does a sub-division DA pertain ONLY to two completely separate houses, and a semi-detached requires a different type of approval?

If the DA is for semi-detached, you will have to build the duplexes before you can subdivide as you have to create the covenant for the supporting wall. Whereas if you have a DA for subdivision it could be for strata, or for creating two independent blocks eg battleaxe.
