Don't be gullible in Perth

This guy approached me today in Morley Galleria car park. First he asked for $15, then $5. I was telling my hubby just recently and he told me he'd just read a similar story in the local paper. The police say I reported the incident too late and can't do anything. Don't they have any camera's around? Apparently it happens all over Perth from several different people so it's no big deal.

i hate it when i see the same people all the time stand out busy supermarkets asking for money and it looks like they spend it all on booze or similar. Its a real pest.

Yeah bullies and beggars have existed for a long long time.

So the guy asked for $15 and you called the cops?

Maybe the guy was pushy/nasty/etc?

Maybe he was the sort of guy that INVSTOR didn't feel comfortable to be left wandering around, hassling people, and taking advantage of those who don't stand up for themselves?

Doesn't INVSTOR deserve the benefit of the doubt?

I recently stopped and put a $10 note in the guitar case of a guy sitting outside a Las Vegas casino, simly because of the sign he wore around his neck, which read:

I won't lie, I can't sing, dance or play a guitar, so if you put money in my case I'll buy a drink with it.

You gotta love an honest man!! :D

A couple of alarm bells were going off:

No offer to repay me
Doesn't the guy have 40c to call a friend or relative to help
Why would someone who had no money drive from Rockingham to Morley to go shopping with a wife and two kids
Why wasn't the guy at work
I suggested he ask centre management for help and he said he already had
$15 is a lot of money to expect one person to give you
I couldn't see any car around with kids and wife in it
Gut feeling - about a year earlier in same car park I had a guy pop out from behind the bushes and he was walking towards me as I was getting out of my car. When I put the keys in my bag he changed direction and minutes later a lady came into the shop who had her keys snatched off her and car stolen.

I've had several incidents of people in my yard in my old house and then that night I've had things pinched or cars broken into. My dog that was on a lead was punched in the eye by a kid as we walked past him.The worst was having a lady break into my house and when I confronted her she said she had to go to the toilet. I'm just sick of it basically and I'd happily dob in a crim.

Gee Vince everybody gets hassled for money every now and then. As stated earlier beggars and bullies have existed for a long time.

I sure have been hassled for money before. And sometimes I hand it over thereby giving the the hassler the benefit of the doubt.

True :D And bottle shops are starting to lock there bottles in glass cabinets so they're getting harder to steal, they'll have to start paying for their alcohol.

Yeah, it's just i've seen some pushy people bugging passers by for money, and I didn't like it. I was close to telling some of them that I'm going to call the cops on them.

The way I see it, if you can walk and speak english, then there are heaps of jobs out there that you can do to make a living. If you can work for even 10 years or so, you can easily become a millionaire landlord for example.

Why should I give my money to someone who is clearly able to work, yet chooses not to

I've never ever actually come across a blind or disabled person begging btw - I think they generally don't want any more of people's sympathy, and on the occasions when I see them, they are usually working, and doing a good job looking after themselves.
