Dry Rot.....

Hoping someone can help me out there.

I have just taken possesion of an Investment Property and as I was sanding and painting around the window sills, a hunk of wood came out and basically disintegrated in my hand. I think it is what you call dry rot. The hole is probably 20 cm long and 5 cm deep. The other window sills seem to be okay.

Question:How do I seal/fill the hole and prevent the decay from worsening?

Dry rot, as apposed to its name is caused by moisture getting into the wood then drying out usually repeatedly. This could be from weather or poor plumbing. You will need to sort this out first.

Best bet for the the rotted piece is to replace it, its cheap and will look better than filling it.

Then paint or seal it to match the others.

Hope this helps,

Brendan.
PS,Be sure its rot and not termite or borer damage!

Brendan,

I think you have overlooked a fundamental mistake in you Success Formula -

dreams x ambition + action = success.

I think you will find the formula will be balanced if you replace the + with x between ambition & action.

dreams x ambition x action = success.

No Rix, the formula was technically correct... however I would like to point out an interesting mathematical observation.

dreams x ambition + action = success

... so when dreams and ambition approach infinity...

dreams -> inf
ambition -> inf

then success also approaches infinity while action becomes mostly irrelevant.

So as a corollary, if you have enough ambition and big enough dreams, the action becomes irrelevant in your success.

Ahh... not who I thought, but one of the short list of candidates... hi Michael ;-)

Yes Sim' is right on this one. If the formula is -

dreams x ambition x action = success

and success approaches infinity therefore reducing the necessity to perform action, a problem will occur. If action becomes zero then the formula fails.

dreams x ambition x 0 = 0

Not a good outcome. I prefer to add action to my dreams and ambitions.

Sim, since your formula doesn't say one person doesn't have to supply
all the ambition and dreams, we should organise a bunch of people to sit
round on their bums and focus on one person being rich...
No, wait - isn't this a description of TV evangelism?

Indeed ! Thanks Owen... I had missed that observation of the equation ;-)

Owen,

Thats my whole point and Sim you overlooked it..if you multiply your dreams & desire by zero action or no action the answer will always be Zero or No Success.. So you cant add action , only multiply it.

However I prefer to use another formula for Success-

Vision x Decision x Action = Success.

Rixter, I do believe that your formula gives you the mathematical (and motivational) effect you intended... well done.

But it's not as funny as mine !

Buggered if I know which formula is correct, they both sound motivational to me!

knock out all the bad wood, spac fill and paint and sell as fast as you can, or if its a holding property, better get checked for termites )

Dreams X ambition + action = success
thought X Balls +start up capital=success

IS this the same thing?
