Existing Granny Flat- Victoria

Hi Somersoft! Apologies if this has been covered before- read through many topics on building a granny flat but couldn't see anything about an existing one.. in Victoria.

Have come across a house in regional Vic (to purchase) that has a granny flat out the back- looks to be "legit" with bedroom, bathroom, lounge and kitchen. The entire property is currently rented out as a whole but wanted to see what I would have to do (if anything) to rent out the granny flat and main house separately (and not have to deal with the secondary dwelling/ dependency rule that Victoria seems to have).

Any insight would be much appreciated- thanks in advance!

Would you still purchase the property if you weren't able to lease the granny flat out legally?

Council would be your first step regarding the dual living requirements you would have to meet.

You cannot do it in Victoria, the person living in the granny flat needs to be a dependent of the people living in the main house.
