expense claim HWS

Hi
I had a new HWS installed on a rental property. Old one burst.
I know I can depreciate the HWS over its 'useful life' but how do I claim the cost of installation?
Can installation be claimed as a repair expense or is it somehow added into the cost of installation for total value to depreciate?

It's added to the cost of the heater, Jesse.

You don't replace any pipework when you simply replace the HWS ie unbolt it and hook up the new one as the fittings are the same size.

Actually I didnt mention that I had the new HWS put outside. So there was additional electrical and pipework to take it out there.

The whole lot is capital - after you write off the balance of the old one.

Wouldnt part of the cost come under "repair" which you can claim as a deduction?
Regarding depreciation of the replacement, if it cost under $1000 can it be depreciated over 3 years as a low value pool asset?
