Facebook

c

if you want to get rid of them as a friend, go into their profile and scroll down to the bottom of the far left column under all the personal garbage and there is a link to remove them as friends

Put your friends in personal garbage? That's nice that is.:D

My hubby was contacted by his first girlfriend. Then he kept telling me how wonderful she was.

Some of the people I get requests from I've met once or sometimes never. They are friends of friends. I can't understand why you would put in a request when you don't even know the person.
At my school some of the parents asked for the teachers facebook details
No thanks. I don't want parents knowing if I had a rotten day or if I was a bit hungover.

I think it is so they can say to their friends "I have 500 friends". It is like a contest to see who can have the most friends, or who can pee up the wall the highest :D.

I don't even KNOW 500 people.

LOL! I take it you are not the jealous type? ;)

I have tried and miserably failed to like Facebook.

I recently tried to get back on for networking purposes and realised I had forgotten my password. As I have changed my email address, I can't access my password. I attempted to start up a new FB page and well that was about two months ago.....say no more.

What I found interesting was that all the old "friends" that contacted me were the girls that left school in Yr 10. I have not had one single Yr 12 school friend try to contact me.

I am also still good friends with 5 of my Yr 12 friends.

I simply do not have time to rekindle relationships that I was not interested in 20 odd years ago in the first place.

What is the big deal about sending silly cakes and hugs to people you realistically have no interest in?:confused:

PS: I really am a nice person.....just one with limited time. I find you guys much more interesting!

This is exactly how I feel too.

I joined the other one (My Space???) for a particular reason to get my art "out there" but I just could not get interested in it.

I think I am just a boring old fart :p.

Most of us present different parts of our personality to different groups of people and when you crossover some of these friendships they get to see other sides of you - not always a good thing - for them and/or you sometimes.

Some people join FB for specific reasons. The friend who urged me to join uses it to post pics and movies of her kids to stay in touch with her mothers group and playgroup she moved away from and her sisters that are scattered throughout the world. However, along the way she's added friends from other parts of her life - which is what happens. They don't know her reason for having an FB presence. Their reason for having one might be for pure fun and anything goes! This week one of her friends - a gay male - posted some funny gay porn on her Wall and she was horrified that her mothers group people saw it. She now has to try to 'train' the gay friend on what's acceptable. The same went for someone who posted something that contained F Bombs.

This is what I don't like about FB - it's just a big free for all - no discretion used. So what's the answer? Different presences for different groups of people? Too hard to manage for my liking. I'll stick to email. With email there are some I send dirty jokes to and some I don't, and some I can swear in front of and some I don't, and some I update on my health issues and life in general and others I don't and so on.

Anyway each to his own.

A story on 60 Minutes tonight about surveillance, CCTV cameras, face recognition software etc. 1 CCTV for every 12 people in the UK. 1 in 17 people are investigated (secretly) via email and phone tapping etc as well. (I'm sure that 1 in 17 don't have a criminal bent so they are investigating perfectly innocent people - why?) The UK has the most CCTV's in the world. Other countries are following suit.

Using those touch screen computers the guy touched Australia, then Sydney, then zoom and followed a girl walking in the park in the city - he did it from London - and using face recognition software showed how a full profile of this girl can be bought up.

I saw a full doco a month or so ago on SBS (or ABC) reporting the same/similar things. However, on the 60 mins story they spoke to a bloke who has created software that can make 3D models of faces and they're using the pics on Facebook to build a database!

Take care on Facebook! I very recently accepted a 'friend' a guy I used to sort of be friends with at high school but that lasted about 2 secs as when I went to look at his profile page I nearly fell off my chair! I'm not an old fuddy duddy but seriously the language was out and out foul. EVERY swear word I'd ever heard of just in his last one-line update! I really think he is a bit mentally deranged and certainly not someone who I want to be looking at pics of my kids (or me)! So cut off that friend as quick as i could move the mouse!

Be careful ppl, there are some serioulsy BAD ppl out there.
