When we bought our house, there was already a dividing fence.

First contact with the neighbour was when he informed us that he had built the fence but the builder of our house (spec house) had told him that the new owners would pay half. At this stage the house was not even for sale.

We politely told the neighbour we had bought a house with an existing fence, and any financial promises were nothing to do with us, and suggested he chase up the builder.

He is deliberately not responding, the sort of character he is I won't get the cash it's a cost unfortunately of business
