Fifa controversy

This will not end well for Fifa.

Sepp blatter has to resign. Sponsors may walk. If the arrested officials are found guilty, Fifa will surely lose sponsors.

It's much the same with the Olympics. The IOC is a dodgy organization with a long history of highly questionable often corrupt conduct.

OK......

Dumb question from a non lover of the most boring sport in the world....oh look the grass is growing..........Blehh.

Why is it the Yanks who are chasing this? Never sort of saw them as a soccer sort of country, or have they just become the anti-corruption world leaders or something (ie BHP - Beijing - Lisa Scaffidi)??

Ciao

Surely cricket takes the prize as the most boring sport.

A lot of countries are scared of FIFA.

Believe it or not, football is hugely popular in the US. You just don't get that impression because there are other sports that are miles ahead (baseball, american football, basketball, to name a few).

Could also be motivated by the fact that the US were one of the bidding nations for the 2022 World Cup, and were beaten by Qatar.

yeah but none of the accused are US citizens, and none of the events they are accused of happened on US soil. also FIFA is not a US based organisation. so jurisdiction is questionable

Anyone surprised? Why don't the countries that want to bid pay an equal fee and then put the names in a hat and pick one? Make it that the same country needs to wait for 5 turns before re hosting and those who have tried and missed out must way 1 turn.

Too simple and clean?

The money flowed through US banks. Good to see the US are putting their superpower status to positive use, rather than bombing countries or spying on the 7 billion citizens of the world.

Where is the controversy? It was an open secret that there was massive bribery happening. Qatar in summer+soccer...really?
