I am buying an off the plan town house and would like to know if I am getting good quality fixtures and fittings, eg. sinks, taps, oven, range hood, etc.

Does anybody out there know where I can research this information?

Thank you.
Mel

Your contract of sale should include specifications, outlining this type of info. It may give a description, as well as possibly specifying and brand name or equivalent to be included in your completed property.

Thanks Dave :). The contract of sale does outline the fixtures and fittings but as this is my first property, how do I know if the fixtures and fittings are of a good quality? What kind of research can I do to compare different brands etc?

Mel,

Write down the brand names and/or product numbers, and visit your local hardware store. Compare the quality and price with what else is available. When buying from a builder, you're probably getting the lower end of the quality tree....unless you first stipulate YOUR preferred fixtures and fittings prior to signing the contract.

Cheers,

Gday Mel

i read with interest your question. I have been involved will some developments on the builders side of the equation. the fittings are usually specified to fit a standard and a price. after that quotes are sought to find the right fittings.

Bear in mind that the cost of these fittings will more than likely be written off over 5 years so anything that lasts longer is bonus to you.

furthermore, if you are really worried you may be able to get an extended warranty of these fittings (at a cost to you.

good luck with your purchase

For things like stoves, dishwashers etc I
use Winnings in Sydney. There sales
people are usually very knowledgeable
and they have a huge range from basic to
top European and specialist items.

I looked in both White and Yellow pages online an couldn't find them. Do you have any details for Winnings in Sydney?
