Im no tech head, but how do on a mac?

I don't run Mac OS, but I found this on Google:

http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/3366/performing-a-traceroute-in-mac-os-x?pc_split_value=2

If you are running Mac® OS X, you can use the Network Utility application, which is included with Mac OS X, to run the trace route.

To Perform a Traceroute in Mac OS X
  1. Open the Utilities folder on your hard drive.
  2. Launch the Network Utility.
  3. Click Traceroute.
  4. Enter the domain name for which you want to perform a traceroute, and then click Trace.
  5. Select the results, and then right-click and select Copy or press COMMAND+C to copy the text.
  6. Paste the text into a text editor (TextEdit, etc.)
.

Yep found out how...see copy below.

It is transiting via Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hong Kong before reaching Japan. There seems to be some network congestion in Hong Kong and in Japan.

It's quite interesting to see how iiNet/Internode route their network - to get to the router in Hong Kong, we get connected directly to Hong Kong on iiNet's network and then link in to Telstra Global via the Hong Kong Internet Exchange. Once upon a time, we would have connected to Telstra's network here in Australia and then relied on that to get us overseas - and had to put up with all of the congestion they allow to happen on their network.

Anyway - hopefully it will come good for you in the next day or two ... provided there isn't a more serious underlying problem in the networks between your place and my servers.

Please report back again some time with an update on how performance is. There's nothing I can do from my end - the server is performing well.

Very slow where I am right now - sitting in a restaurant by myself in Hobart reading the newspaper. But maybe Tassie is always slow. Seems to just be SS, too. The SMH site and others are fine.

Great city, this one.

I have trouble getting the traceroute program sam-spade to copy n paste

That is to be expected - there is a significant delay introduced when transiting large distances. I'm assuming there is a submarine cable between San Jose and Japan, those kinds of distances will typically add 100ms or more to the ping times.

Are you experiencing any slowdowns on Somersoft from Canada?

Still appallingly slow with Bigpond
OK as a guest but logged in I get

add: It does seem a lot faster now, when I first logged in the page chugged down the screen very slowly.

My theory is that when the sun goes down in Tassie everything slows down.

Probably not far off the mark actually - some networks suffer from major congestion in the evening when all the kids (and adults!) get home and start surfing the net / playing games / downloading movies / etc.

Currently tethered to my iphone (no dsl after moving house) and SS is so slow its proably running at 10-15 secs per page render. Other AU sites are running quick smart.

Same here, SS slow, all other sites fast as usual.

Frustrating when Sim says all is ok yet SS is the only one slow....?????
