I guess overall I'm still sceptical that there is reliable profits to be made with this sort of strategy these days.
All the people I've heard of doing it didn't seem to make much, if you took away the effect of the rising market at the time.
Friends wanting to make some money from renovating - any thoughts?

So did I, this is like a school reunion!
I think the area is still good value and would be a good long term hold. I really don't think its worth moving out of your house for a year. PITA and expensive. Packing and moving twice. Your lucky if furniture doesn't get damaged. Utilities set up costs. Different areas have different internet options so that can be costly too. If your PPOR isn't looked after well it's a lot more disappointing than an IP.
Do they like their current home or want a change?
