Gaming - any gamers on somersoft?

Dota? what is that, look at my avatar :D
Ha! I've seen your profile pic so many times before but I didn't pick it.

My partner spends a ridiculous amount of time on Dota 2 and I often hear him coaching other players and telling them what moves to make. He says its his relaxation (and escapism) but I really wish he had other hobbies that involved face-to-face socialising.
I mean, I've dabbled with a few PC games that suck up time (Minecraft - OMG what a time-suck) and enjoyed a little bit of controller-smashing with Halo, so I understand the social element and why it's fun, but still... There's gotta be a limit, right? I think non-gamers understand this concept more!

I was a fan of Command & Conquer games like Red Alert (still remember Tanya ;) ), Age of Empires, War Craft & obviously Star Craft

Call of Duty was good too.

I enjoyed the game called Worms. Girls at uni liked it because it was cute ;)

I would love to give it a go with the new Star Craft but there are so many things in 'To Do' list before I can even touch it.

LOL, what is your partner's ID, I will add him, :D

I used to play Dungeons and Dragons and still would if I could find people to play with.

I never have played D&D but wanted to see what it was like one day.

Used to play a lot more now really just play League of Legends which is similar to dota. Games last about 30 mins usually and is free.

Back in the day, CS, D1, D2, D3, Played wow from vanilla and was in a top 10 world end game raiding guild at one point and left cold turkey at the end of wrath of lich king (had 6 level 80s which included 2 shamans and both same race and a bunch of 50s 60s as I had 2 accounts) also played SimCity, did StarCraft for a bit but cant keep up the mirco, final fantasy, War 1,2 & 3, BF 1942 and cod. Prefer PC gaming as I cant control consoles as easily and cbf learning things again.

All work and no play makes Johnny a sad boy, I rarely try new games I prefer games I grew up with and play a sequel as I don't want to learn new games.

I used to be heavily into MS flight simulator a few years ago, but then work got the better of me and I had to put it aside. I've recently upgraded my PC and have much more time available to play, so flight sim and all the fruit is back on the program and it runs really well on modern hardware ([email protected], GTX770, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD).

I've also discovered Steam and their mega online sales. I bought the latest Thief game for about $10 and today I bought two slightly older Tomb Raider games for less than $2 each! Games have never been cheaper :D

Used to play WoW many a years ago during highschool, much regret. Only played from Vanilla -> TBC
Gave CS 1.6 a lot of my time, recently ArchAge but the grind is too much.

Trip down memory lane...started with Baldurs Gate, SC1, Diablo I, Warcraft moved to Neverwinter then WoW...basically all games developed by Blizzard. Also dabbled bit of Call of Duty. Was hooked on poker (online and brick and mortar) for awhile.

Nowadays there's no time, maybe play 2 hours a week of Diablo 3 if that. Can't wait to hit my investment goals and can ramp up my play time again.

That's what I'm thinking too, once semi retired I will maybe have enough time to get some games going again.

Ahh baldurs gate and NWN, loved those single player RPGs, they had the proper D&D rules unlike a lot of the new simplified "skill tree" based games.

I grew up on games.

When I was in school I used to write FAQs/Walkthroughs and reviews for GameFAQs.com. I even got fan mail now and then along the lines of "OMFLOLO ur amazing I was stuck forever on that level. you saved my life!!!1 where do u live. i want to thank you. asl?".

When I got to about 18 or 19 I realised I was a crack addict, and made a choice to ease up on the games to focus on "life".

Barely touched a game since but I'm sure I'll be playing them on the odd occasion in the future.

Can you imagine in 40 years time what games people will be playing? I predict my grandchildren laughing at my outdated Alienware MX17

Hopefully I'm still alive!
Maybe things will be so realistic, there will be major addiction issues and people won't go outside anymore
