google maps now has sydney detail

Very cool.

Here are some more.

Click on the following web addresses, then zoom in all the way as far as you can either by pressing the + button repeatedly, or click on the scroll bar and drag it all the way up

Hastings Street, Noosa
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-26.386315,153.090317

Witta circle, Noosa (my grandparents house :)
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-26.389315,153.088317

Carter St, Middle Park, Melbourne (where I am right now!)
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-37.845315,144.960000
You can see the swimming complex near the top of the map
Some of the commonwealth games events are being held there next year

Blackstone St Indooroopilly (my house in briz)
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-27.492000,152.963000

but some maps you can't zoom in all the way
e.g.

Uluru (ayers rock)
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-25.340000,131.030000

So how do you find a location using google maps?

Well first you need the longitude and latitude coordinates

I found the approximate coordinates by doing a regular google search
eg "middle park" vic longitude latitude

Then when I found the coordinates of the suburb, I entered those into the maps.google web address

eg
Code:
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=-26.386315,153.090317

Then at full zoom I count the number of up/down and right/left movements
to get to the place I want to see, and add or subtract the numbers accordingly

longitude (vertical) is first number
+/- 2000 is about one map movement (at full zoom)

latitude (horiz) is 2nd number
+/- 3000 is about one map movement (at full zoom)

i have noticed you can also use the arrow keys to move small distances, the page up/page down/home/end to move bigger sections and +/- to zoom in and out :)

Merovian,

I tried clicking on these icons, but nothing happened.

Cheers,

Aceyducey

Clicking on the links to the pictures, or clicking on the pictures themselves?
If the former, they load for me, but if the latter, they're only screen shots I took and wouldn't do anything.

It's great.

It's interesting to see the difference that different times that parts of the photo have been taken- and the effect that seasons/bushfires have had

That's one thing I've noticed also. All of the cities tend to have a grey or brown 'outline' to them, which I believe is because of the side-effects of higher resolution imaging — but I have no idea how it works.

I looked at Adelaide and the area around my home, and it was obviously taken in summer because of the brown grass everywhere. I looked at London also, which was the opposite — the photos must have been taken right after a snow fall as it is covered with snow.

Reno Kings?

I 'knew' it..and by the way, where is that Old Man?

PS- Which Google Function (plugging in adresses) were the RENO KINGS Using the other day on TV?

Forget Google Maps, download and try Google Earth. Incredible !!!!

http://earth.google.com/
And the next step- live images. From SMH:

Zoom with a view: your home from space
Home computer users will be able to view live images of the world's cities and towns from space within five years, say the makers of a new satellite.

It's a service that's likely to gain a tremendous response after Google Earth, which offers still-image views of the planet, became one of the world's most talked-about applications.

The creators of the soon-to-be launched Astrovision Australia satellite say the production of real-time pictures from space is near to becoming a reality...

Google Moon.

When Geoffw said to zoom in to find one of the great secrets, I immediately thought,...
Great, so I can zoom in and check out the lunar rover tracks in the dust, or some lunar modul first stages that are still there. That will silence those nuts who think it didn't happen.

And what do I find?

This will only get the no moon landing conspiracy brigade going even harder. There's allready enough who think it never happened.

See ya's.
