Hi All,

I'm looking at setting up an Amateur radio at home for a few reasons 1) for a hobby and to communicate with people from around the world 2) we live in a bushfire prone area, so for emergency purposes.

Are there any Amateur Radio operators out there that give me advice on a goog starting place i.e websites etc.........

There are many Ham Radio clubs round the places, you might have a local one near you.
I'm sure they'll be happy to have a new member and guide & train you through the process.
Here they normally have monthly meetings, sometimes advertised in the local newspaper.

The easiest licence to get is a Foundation, obtainable through a weekend course. This can be upgraded to Standard or Advanced, which give you more privileges including more frequencies & higher power more suitable for worldwide communication.
