Hi There,

Does any one know what are the advantages/disadvantages of a brand new townhouse built in hardiplank construction.

Is it cheaper/better than brick veneer, etc?

Does it need regular maintenance?

Is it solid enough?

What about insulation?

Thanking you in advance.

Hardiplank is quicker to construct than bricks and is cheaper, especially for upper levels.
I assume it is rendered and looks like rendered bricks at first sight, but when you tap it, it doesn't sound solid and isn't a good sound or heat insulator.
More developers are using this technique because it is a little cheaper... but it tends to have poorer resale value because it is not as solid.
But...
In the USA people love that type of construction compared to bricks because it doesn't fall down with earthquakes like a brick house does.

Hi,

Pray we never have to factor earthquakes into a purchase.

Hi Mg

AS a geologist I tell you Id rather be in a hardiplank or fibro or timber house rather than a full brick.

The movement will be taken by the joints in the "lesser" building materials, but may crumble a ridgid structure.

Hi Rolf,

How does a ridgid structure differ from a rigid one and how do you crimble
it?

Been a long week has it?

Cheers
