Headaches

So, for the past few years I've been getting headaches fairly bad about once every 2 days.

Nothing seems to trigger it and just comes n goes as it pleases,

I've never been to the docs about it because there are so many causes and its hard to diagnose.

Any ideas?

diet for sure.

drop dairy and wheat for a week and see what happens. this is the most common cause.

failing that, computer monitor refresh rate as mentioned in another thread? flouro lighting below 60Hz? get more sun (Vitamin D)?

Does it coincide with heavy drinking sessions?
What about when certain posters post? (Its OK, most have gone now)

But seriously, you should go to the docs.

Do you suffer from neck or back stiffness at all ?

Do you spend a lot of time in front of a computer ?

Do you wear glasses ? Have you had your eyes checked recently ?

No, no back or neck stiffness, my eyes seem to be good but unless an eye doctor tells me I'm going blind and need glasses I'm not sure. I easily passed my license test the other week if that helps?

I get lots of sun, I never wear sunnies if that could cause?

Not sure about the computer screen thing.

I only eat a little dairy some days, I did have yogurt for breakfast this morning? ..

I usually have milk in my coffee,

I dunno, it could be anything I guess.

I rarely drink these days. A beer after work is about all.

Oh and one more thing 'its not a tumor' in your best scandernavian accent.

Sometimes I think it has something to do with sleep, I always sleep in the aircon and if I get too much sleep I always have a headache

Ok, so you need to get it checked out, which as you have guessed, means tests, tests and more tests. One thing you could do before you go is keep a diary. Also, have you had a chiropractic assessment? Your spine can play havoc with your head.

No I haven't been to a chiro in years, maybe I should check out, I do have wii fit though :D

I'd say diet, as a first up.

Especially if you don't drink a lot of water - probably dehydrated most of the time.

Cut back on coffee and soft drinks if you drink those.

Both of these are going to dehydrate you as well.

But as well as that; get to the doctor asap for a cat-scan.

My free consultation will cost $110 thankyou. :)

Get your eyes checked !!

Best advice I was ever given...lost that headache almost straight away after obtaining reading glasses.......if you read a heap either books, on the computer etc...go have a quick test!

Now my only headache is pleasing the "cook" as to where we go each year for holidays! :)

good luck with it!

I'd get yourself checked for diet like the others have mentioned.

One of my girls here went to a specialist doctor as she has headaches pretty much every day. Don't know the specifics, but apparently a lot of processed food is what is causing it for her, so she has to eat less processed stuff, restrict certain foods etc (don't think it was specific to dairy in her case).

It could be one of many things or a few different things.

Dehydration
Too much sleep
Skipping your regular caffiene fix
spine and neck problems (poor posture)
Long periods driving
Low grade depression
Stress and physical tension
Diet
Eye strain

I'm sure there's many more...

If you've had these for years the chance is it's not serious but it's always a good idea to see your Doctor.

I've just had a thought, I use deoderant every few days and now I think of it, I used it this morning and just happen to have a splitting headache.. I get these symptoms every 'couple of days'... I'll keep you all posted.

Darn, I was going to say that.

Deodorant every few days huh? How do you get away with that?

But yes, in addition to what all the others have suggested, it could be a perfume type thing.

I got headaches from sharing a desk & phone with a guy that was a heavy aftershave user many years ago. You could smell the aftershave on the phone handpiece. And my wife has a perfume that gives me an instant headace as well. Gives a whole new meaning to "not tonight dear, I have a headache" :p

That would the Austrian accent :)
I used to suffer bad headaches a couple of times a week. Each month, at least one would blow out to a full on migraine. This went on from the time I was about 7 years og age until a few years ago.
There seemed to be no particular trigger and various migraine medications didn't really help, although side effects prevented me taking some of them.
Since I got back from the Himalayas, I've not had one single headache of any description, including the monthly migraines.
My theory is that the adaptations that take place during high altitude acclimatisation include more or better pathways for blood flow in the brain. I would expect that if the changes were to reverse, they would have done so by now. If the headaches come back again, I'll just hea dback to the Everest region and chill out.

You can get blood tests to see exactly what your allergic too including food, animals, grass, etc. Drinking plenty of water is recommended for allergies. Try not to stress, avoid coffee.
