how do i clear an unpaid bill which has caused a record in my history

I went to apply for a home loan today, and they advised me to do a Veda credit check. To my suprise i had an unpaid mobile bill with the sum of $260. The broker said this could affect my application.

Can anyone recommend a company who can solve this issue and eliminate this record.

Thanks for your help, this is the last thing i expected that would stand in my way.

Did your broker make any suggestions on how he / she could sort it out re: the application (I assume it is a pre-approval application)?

The broker advised me that there are companys that can sort these issues out. They also advised me not to pay the outstanding bill but to get these company to do so as they take care of everything.

I was applying for the pre approval.

Bit confused on who to call or how to go about it.

Seems like the broker thought, it may take a while before i can get my comission, so if you go young lad and come back when your ready.

I'd ask the broker to recommend 2 of 'these companies', what I can expect from them, and the cost for them to 'sort it out'.

Sorry, can't help you further. Never been in a similar situation :)

Is it paid and incorrectly recorded or do you have it outstanding?

It hasnt been paid because i didnt know it existed.

I thought my contract period was over, i must have been wrong.

Get in touch with said telco and pay off immediately.

Make sure you obtain evidence (confirmation) this has been settled, so if you are asked to "please explain" you have something at hand showing it was settled.

Cheers Y man

says will stay on my file till 2014 but will be changed to settle.

hope it doesnt hurt my chances of a normal rate loan too much.

Options:

1) If you feel the default has been entered incorrectly then certainly their are specialist companies that will attempt to get these removed for you. The charge between $1500 - $3000 with NO guarantee.

2) Get your Broker to get a pre-approval with the lender concerned as is.
Whilst lenders may ask for a little more paperwork at that level of default you should be fine depending on the lvr required.

Pay the bill and ask the telco to set the judgement aside. Most will oblige but you will need to engage a solicitor. Your solicitor will then apply at the Magistates and have a date set. The end result is that you will have it removed but may have to jump a few hoops - eepecially if the telco appoints a solicitor to act on their behalf and tries to milk money out of their client thus delaying the process.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your reply

i have been trying to speak to telco but they are in india and not helping at all, they just transfer me to each other.

I will definately pursue it further, legal costs wont be an issue my fiance is a lawyer.

such a waste of time

let me guess... it was with 3 mobile? they started billing us twice for the same account - strangely enough always different amounts. do you think we could get them to understand the problem?!! had to start rejecting the payments fromt he credit card until someone in australia finally called and sorted it out.

I agree with Richard, go ahead with an application once its paid, you will need to ensure that your broker gives a clear explanation in his notes with the application. Make sure they select a lender who will accept a small paid default, not all lenders will at present.

Good luck

Agree many lenders wont touch it with a barge pole however others will ignore it as it is a telco default all depends on the rest of the deal.

It was vodafone, i have heard many stories about 3.

I will get it cleared even if i go to the magistrate, ill come up with a plan. Its just so fustrating when the call centre is over seas, i honestly spoke to 4 people and in the end will end up writing a letter to head office through a solicitor

Mobile Phone (Again)

I had a similar situation many years back, I purchased the mobile phone on a plan and asked for insurance of the phone to be included (they were expensive back then). One day whilst in the Post Office I left the phone on a desktop and only realised as I got back to my car (parked directly opposite), by the time (2 mins) I returned to the Post Office it was gone.

Turns out there was no insurance included with the mobile phone no matter what I’d thought and as per the discussion with the sales person (my blue, should’ve checked the paperwork thoroughly) anyway I still argued the point and thought I’d had a win with the Telco.

Years later when applying for a loan it turns out I had the debt registered on my credit file (maybe I didn’t really win, they just gave up arguing). I paid the debt to clear the file and wrote a letter explaining the scenario which was attached with my loan application via the broker. They must have been happy, as the loan went through (as did the next).

Credit is apparently tighter at the moment though, maybe one of the brokers can assist as i'm sure there are other types of stories?

Change of Address resulting in a bill missed and default lodged
Dispute (me) resulting in a default lodged
Seperation or Divorce, Business failure resulting in a bill missed and default lodged
Incorrect direct debit details in a bill missed and default lodged

There is a company called www.wefixcredit.com.au that I have heard of, but never used.

They claim they can get these sorts of things taken off fo a fee
