For the real thing relevant for New Years Day.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Thanks LH - you beat me to posting Frost's classic. A great poem and very relevant for those intent on setting some big goals for 2002 !

Cheers

Great one.

I wonder though, if let say two people will take road each, will they end up in the same place of destination (like Sydney to Melbourne coastal way or country side way) or will one end up in Perth?

I'm guessing here, do not quote me on that one, but if you started in Sydney with the intention to get to Melbourne, you will get there eventually, unless it is complete mix up.

Puzzling...

Serge,

The Road not taken is meant to be taken metaphorically. The decisions you make today will make you a different person and indeed you will end up at a different destination in the future then if you had chosen another path. It's about life being about making decisions and then committing ourselves to them and not regretting that we can't go back and try the other track. It's also about taking the path that other people dare not take or seldom do, about being our own person in the decisions we make.

Sometimes there are times in your life that may only last a few seconds, like a phone call, that alter the entire course of your life. These short but crucial events can you lead you upon the Road Not Taken.

Cheers!

The Rocky-Road Not Taken

Two rocky-roads appeared on a yellow dish,
And sorry I could not eat both
And to consume them all, long I wished
And wondered if they would be missed

I eyed the larger, with more pink marshmallows;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because there was more chocolate there;

Though as for that piece was smaller yet,
Had broken them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
On that dish just longing to be ate.

Oh, I left the first for another day!
Yet knowing how such things do stray,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two rocky-roads appeared on a yellow dish, and I-
I took the one less marshmallowed,
And that has made all the difference.
