Propogate's post reminded me of a time we had a similar problem.

Turned out that we had a faulty charger.

Apparently iphones and ipads have a different voltage, so you can't interchange the chargers. Fortunately for us the cable went first.

That's not true.

The larger one is 2amp while the smaller delivers just one.

They are interchangeable. But the smaller one will give a not charging indicator on the iPad screen, though in my experience it still charges at a slow rate.

All USB outlets including iPad, phone chargers etc all deliver the same voltage. It is standard around the wotld. 5 VDC.
