Ideas on weekend or evening job options

Hey all. Live in Brisbane and am starting to look for weekend or evening jobs. Any ideas out there on where to look, what industries to target and tips on how to go about applying for them.

Cheers

Not sure what your main industry is that you work in, but if it's an office environment then what about real estate? I've had a few (and currently do) second jobs on Saturday in real estate. I work full time during the week in an office job and then do a Saturday as real estate receptionist (not many weekend office jobs around as most are Mon-Fri). Money is nowhere near what I earn during the week, but it brings in a few extra dollars and I enjoy it. So if you have some office experience, I don't think getting something like that would be too difficult. Most offices are open Saturday's and some even Sunday's also.

I'd be interested to hear of any evening jobs though, if I could find something I didn't mind (i.e. nothing that BlueCard has listed :) ) I wouldn't mind a few more hours, perhaps one evening a week (I want to keep Sunday's free!) for a year or so just to be able to get IP2 sooner.

Not really picky on job types. Just need something to bring in a little extra a week for play money. Just seeing whats available out there / what people have done. SEEK and CareerOne don't exactly list very many weekend / casual jobs and those listed are rather competitive so looking for other alternative avenues to pursue.

hey biggles. that sounds pretty cool, mixing passion with your profession. How did you get into it. I wouldn't think it would be suitable to just rock up to a RE agency and handing your resume to the front counter as that is the persons' job you are after.

Try to get work in a service industry as tips can be VERY worthwhile.

If you can get into the high end establishments you can double your wage with tips.

If you have no experience start as a barback and work your way up.

Or restaurants.

They are often advertised on Seek, and that's how I got my current one. My very first real estate job was while I was still in school and I sent my resume to all the local ones and got something out of it. The second one I think was advertised, and this one was also advertised. Saturday's are a great day, all the agents and property managers are out of the office doing their OFI's so it's just me. Can get really busy, especially rent day but that just makes the time go even faster.

letter box delivery. its cash money here in the west and you can pickup 200-300 a week and you get fit while you work. you could also use it to keep an eye on whats for sale in your area;)

Venue security? aka "Crowd Controller"

Almost exclusively evening and weekend, I'd think. Don't know what's involved in getting your license, tho'.

Are you serious about the pay?

I always thought that sort of work paid peanuts!

I have a great job. Couple of hrs a couple of nights a week, and sat mornings - with Weight Watchers. Pretty decent money, but catch it that you need to have been a member and have lost weight following the program.

Otherwise, what about nightfill? I used to do nightfill as a school student at big W. It's usually only ever nights or occaisionally weekends, restocking the shelves. I know Aldi's pays $22hr.

thanks for the replies guys. Keep them coming.

hey rugrat. nightfill sounds like the sort of job that suits my criterias of hours and close to good public transport. How does one go about applying - just rock up to the store and speak to manager, is there a recruitment agency/hr department I have to see, ...

Our local shopping center you just turn up and fill out a form (big stack of em under the counter but yes, the manager deals with them) and join the queue - I have the other half signed up for night fill. Unfortunately here they overemployed when the place was built (its about a year old) and so they haven't even scratched the surface of their queue so no good here, but I'm sure it is way better in a big city.

If you are prepared to put in a little time and effort you can always do personal care work. Its available 24/7,but you may need to get ticket first through TAFE.

Slim:)

Im always on the look out for something decent - done my share of cafe/restaurant work which is easy money, am interested in soemthing in RE at the moment, so keeping an eye out.

Casino not such a good idea as they have intensive training that is compulsory to attend and the hours this is held isn't compulsory - although if you do do it, its great pay!

Not sure about the training but there would be a variety of jobs at the casino and it would be unlikely you would be dealing cards. You could be running drinks on the floor or serving at the bar, or perhaps on the accomodation side with the hotel, or something else...?

I know a guy who did it through uni and then on the weekend once he was working full time in his chosen profession. Not sure what role he had but nothing too specialised. And yeah good pay.

As Slim Pikins mentioned - personal care work is great for extra cash.

I was a support worker looking after people with disabilities for 5 years as well as teaching FT. Some weeks I could bring in an extra $500-$800/fn depending on shifts. Great job, got to see the latest movies, work paid for meals etc. Were some negatives too, but outweighed by positives.

Edit: Also, as I was casual I didn't have to do any of the TAFE courses, just learnt on the job.

If you can pull a beer then a sports club is a great place to work.

I'm not sure what the wages are like in Brisbane but a good community sports club in Canberra pays between $17-$32 per hour depending on the time and day of the week.

It's a fun too. Most of my close friends are people I met working at local club six years ago.
