Info on apprentice annual leave pay

Terrible attitude. You underpay and he complains and that's a issue. Perhaps campaign your member for child slavery too. You cut corners on safety also?

Wrongful termination action?

Brian, you claim that you're a builder and don't know which industry association that you should belong to. If you are generally doing residential work then go with either the HUA or MBA, if commercial tgen the MBA is your employer organization.

SK investments has hit the nail on the head quoting the appropriate award. As an employer you must hold a current copy of the award or the Workplace Agreement the employees are engaged. Not knowing the award can leave you in hot water.

The MBA has an apprenticeship scheme - you can get an apprentice for the duration which suits you ie monthly, for the project etc. They manage the apprentice, you pay the MBA.

The cost of membership is pretty low (as a sole trader I was only paying a couple of hundred per year).

You're right Brian, there is no compulsion to join any industry organisation however if you require assistance from the organisation eg. award information, industrial relations, specific training requirements (annual CPD for licensing), they can be of great assistance. However not paying to be part of an industry organisation does not necessarily save you money, make you more profitable, give you networking opportunities (contacts within builders) etc.

The MBA doesn't just look after builders - they also cover subcontractors - most of their members are subbies. They have regular dinner meetings in local venues eg Roseville Golf club, MBA offices in Glebe etc.

Otherwise BISCOA (Building Industry Specialist Contractor Organisation) is another organisation which may be able to assist (if they still exist).
