Introduction from someone coming in from the shadows...

Hi All,

I posted an intro on invested, but I am keen to start interacting here, so here goes...

I have been reading this forum since May, and I have finally come up for air after going through the “Analysis Paralysis” that has been referenced.

So a bit about me. Numbers not exactly accurate, but good enough for a snapshot.

I am 39 Married, 2 way cute kids 9 & 7 (B&G). Living bayside in Brisbane. I work in Computer software at a company that I am one of the owners. No IP’s, 450K equity in PPOR, though a 400K debt. We have 25K (after tax) surplus after a generous budget and PPOR repayments.

We have a family trust with a company as trustee which owns the stake in the software company listed above. This is then distributed, after paying some minimal expenses. My wife also earns a wage outside of this.

We are looking at our strategy options now. This follows speaking with some mortgage brokers (recommended from SS), my existing and prospective accountant (again SS), and Financial Planners. Also thanks to some members that I have PM’ed and have been quite responsive even though they don’t know me and I asked some questions that could have been found in posts (Thanks Rixter).

I went to the Navra seminar last Saturday in Perth on frequent flyers as I couldn’t attend the Brisbane event. As I posted over at invested, I enjoyed the workshop, but I must say that I really enjoyed the lunch break where whilst eating some lovely seafood, got to speak with Redwing and Rixter, and found their answers to my wide eyed questions very refreshing and inspiring. Thanks guys, if you are back in Brisbane on another buying visit, there will be a frosty beverage awaiting you.

I have attended BIG and the SIG panel recently (travel a bit for work). I have also been meeting with a private wealth management company that specialises in direct equities.

Where are heads are at:

Really liked Michael Whyte’s strategy and I have been modelling our situation with his great spreadsheet (Thanks Michael). This is forming a strong plank of our strategy with regards to debt recycling of our PPOR mortgage.

Would like to use our current (or augmented) structure as an investment vehicle that can use pre tax income from the business to invest in quality assets. Plan is that this becomes self servicing.

I am getting splinters (you know where) from sitting on the fence on investing in shares or our first IP. With 850K value of our PPOR, and no shares perhaps balance is the order. Of course, there may be the opportunity to do both.

I will post more specific questions, but wanted to introduce myself first.

Look forward to speaking with you soon.

Cheers,
Horizon

Welcome Horizon,

Sounds like you have already benefited from being on SS, before a lot of us even knew you were around!

I look forward to hearing more from you. Sounds like you are already mid - journey on your way to wealth and success.

Hope we can all learn something from you.

ALL of us here on somersoft forums have learnt a lot from each other.
There is no other place quite like it!
Welcome! :)

Hi Horizon,

Welcome!

I am sure you will find the answers to your questions here, and in turn be able to help others along their journey as well.

PS: I can't believe it took you 7 months to "come out"....makes me wonder how many other closet SS'ers are lurking around....Don't be shy people; make yourself heard.

Hi all again,

Thanks for the welcome and replies.

Thought I would post some kudos (still to work out how to add kudos to a post or someone yet...)

As posted in my intro, we have an existing Family trust, with a company as trustee, which the majority of our income comes through. We were hopeful of using this structure or augmenting this with a HDT for investing purposes. We are still investigating pro's and con's and reading lots of opposing views in this forum.

The common feeling is to have a look at Dale's book, so I purchased the pack with the wealth sabotage CD as well. Well it arrived promptly, although our 1 year old labrador, worked out how to get it from the mail box. The following greeted my on my arrival home...

I decided to email Dale straight away (with the photo as well of what greeted me), and ask even though he has carried out his end of the transaction, could I pay for the postage for the wealth sabotage CD, as the Trust Magic book was salvageable. I was very pleased that Dale could see the lighter side, and emailed me through the cd contents. Kudos to you Dale!

I have also attached a pic of the offender.

Cheers,
Horizon

Welcome Horizon!

I've responded to your PM with some specific answers to your questions. Feel free to post questions like that here on the open forum so that others can benefit from the Q&A.

I look forward to reading about your endeavours and successes here in the near future.

Cheers,
Michael.

That sounds scary,
a man coming in from the shadows..

Sea Captain McAllister: Twas a moonless night, dark as pitch, when out of the mist came a beast more stomach than man... So I says to me boastens, "Batten down the mizzen mast, mateys!"

More Simpsons.
