Need to investigate population trends in those towns out in the Wimmera and Mallee areas.
I had heard that Nhill was doing ok, Kaniva was struggling and possibly losing population to the bigger centres.
Horsham is apparently growing.
The thing to remember is that those towns primarily exist to service the farms around them. The minimum sustainable farm size continues to rise, it has probably doubled in the last 10 years. This means within a 30-40km catchment there are half as many farmers as there used to be.
Kaniva might be big enough to survive and do ok, but anywhere that has a bigger neighbor nearby is at risk.
