Land values - NSW

I have just returned home from a trip to the Land and Property Information (LPI) office in sydney. As I understand it, this office includes the former "Valuer Generals office".

I was after sale price records (ie: a list including street, number, short description, sale price and date) for a wide range of properties within a given suburb, which I understood would be easily found, and free. The use being background research to assess market values before selecting a particular property.

Apparently it's not that straight forward - they tell me that they can only give me details on individual titles, and these will cost about $10 each! (includes address search, title and transfer details).

I'm sure some of you out there have some more sensible alternatives, and might be able to point me in the right direction???

Sorry Astro but I think you may have to pay for such information. I have used both Domain reports (from their site) and Residex. the Domain ones are quite good, spitting out the sales in a postcode for the last 12 mths for about $40. they include the address, the no. of bedrooms and the price sold for, on what date. Try RP Data. Phone 02 9891 6488. They have exactly that information. It's not free, it costs $8 per page, but can give entire suburbs, and other different filters.

If you want the values for free, try going to the local Council chambers and look thru their sales records. It is filed yearly, on a street by street basis. All you need is time.
