Larry Pickering

Should he be dismissed as a "nutcase"?

I say "No!", why do you think otherwise?

He's no nutcase.

He's only a 'nutcase' because people either don't agree with him (mostly Gillard fans) AND he's too confronting.

Nutcase (or nutjob) is used more by left wing critics it seems, to describe anyone voicing strong opposing views, ie. climate change 'deniers'.

He's not a nutcase as such. He may well have some actual evidence.

But he presents himself as a fringe nutcase, through the use of his language, and the comments on his website (which are not his fault - talking perception) and as such any evidence he does have may be completely disregarded.

However, If firm evidence is uncovered by his work you can bet your bottom dollar that the Murdoch press in particular would cover it with glee.

You don't like the form or the messenger. Diddums.

News tried once to air this and were threatened with a senate inquiry into phone tapping and draconian media laws. They had to sack a journalist and apologise without cause.

Michael Smith was sacked from his radio station. He is an ex-copper and super-careful re the law and he has plenty of evidence. They both do.

Oh dear.

Way to engage in grown up debate.

Shame really. Would have been interesting to actually talk like adults about the role of the media in the political process, but let's just go down the path of ad hominem attacks instead eh?

I don't care what his message his - free speech is a fundamental aspect. His delivery lets him down and makes him appear (notice that word, appear) like a crank devoted to hyperbole. If he wants to be taken seriously then he should approach it seriously.

I agree 100%

Firstly, Milne wasn't sacked solely because if this story, he had a number of 'priors' before he went with his story, against the advice of News Corp lawyers.

Hedley Thomas has written about it extensively, and he is still employed.

If there was a smoking gun somewhere, mainstream media would be all over it. Pickering's writing is a lot of opinion, with precious little fact. Which is probably why he writes the way he does. All huff and puff with little substance.

So you are not interested in finding out about your PM's very shady past?

Be an adult and get over your fear of the truth.

If you dislike Pickering so much, read what Michael Smith has to say. He is the exact opposite: Precise and never commits, or allow others to commit to rumours. He has no corporate backing [sacked on the PM's insistence], so if he is committing libel, why doesn't Julia have him closed down again?

Nope. I am interested in finding out the truth.

I just don't care about scurrilous tit-bits, half truths, exaggerated rumors and hyperbole.

I can get that spun a different way from Socialist Alliance.

Is politics any different from entertainment these days as we sometimes see as with Labor under Miss Gillard, they burst onto the public scene with irrepressible energy and imagination as they stagger us with their brilliance only to find out about their past..

Once famous for his cartoons of Gough [I can feel another election coming on!] and his irreverent calendars.

I have no idea what he has said or done.

I think I saw an article on ACA a few years ago baout his helicopter and Child Support Arrears (is my memory right on this?)

Less known is his involvement with Tomato technologies (?)a company that made its money selling punting programs /share trading programs at 13k a go.

Happened quite a few years ago but that is how I remember it. Happy to be proven wrong on this point though.

Last seen living on the Gold Coast.

I don't think Michael Pascoe has much time for Larry Pickering.

Excerpts only:

Aside from Slater and Gordon denying the allegation, there's a major problem with the latest instalment in the vitriolic anti-Gillard campaign being waged by Larry Pickering: it's being waged by Larry Pickering and therefore immediately lacks any credibility.

Pickering is commonly known as a cartoonist, but he's also an inveterate liar, a bankrupt conman with a seedy history of fleecing the gullible of millions of dollars while not paying his own bills.

A small mystery is why the serial bankrupt with the millionaire's lifestyle has been trying so hard to bring down a Prime Minister over her poor choice of men two decades ago.

With various failed business ventures and numerous personal relationships of equal standard, for decades he has plied a grubby trade behind sundry stooges and partners, assisted by the odd sharp lawyer and hapless corporate and consumer regulators. He is not a nice man.

Cold-call racket

Hiding behind other people, Pickering ran a high-pressure cold-call racket that promised mug punters computer software that would pick winners on the race track for them. Yes, you would have to be a fool to fall for such a thing, but as shysters like Pickering know, there are actually a lot more than one born every minute.

Pickering used his creativity to refine the fraud, an early adopter of mailing out glossy video presentations of the good life to be had from the magic of computer power applied to hayburners. His first effort featured himself, but he quickly retired from the front line, hiring an actor for the role, a familiar face from a well-loved soap. It became a very big business with glossy offices in a prime Gold Coast site, the home of so many scams.

All of this must seem a long way from the business pages, but Pickering decided he could apply the same formula to the stock market.....see article

Does anyone here know what ad hominem means? Seems not, you all revel in it.

I left Pascoe behind twenty years ago. He is a bitter old man who has not kept up.

But he admitted he helped set up CSI five years ago. The software seller went into bankruptcy last year, with KordaMentha appointed liquidators in November.

"I feel sorry for people who lost money but I had nothing to do with it," Pickering said. "The relevant authorities and police should investigate."

KordaMentha said creditors claim they have been defrauded and have "reported offences to ASIC and other law enforcement bodies" including Queensland Police and the AFP.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained 24 sworn statements from investors who claim they lost money by investing in the scheme which Mr Gamble said can be traced back to associates of Pickering on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police have confirmed they are now investigating complaints and have several statements from people alleging Pickering used the alias Paul Perry. Pickering has been accused of using the name while pushing the scheme to investors - a claim he also denied.

Chief Superintendent Steve Hollands said officers were exploring whether a fraud had been committed. "The possibility also exists that it could have been a legitimate scheme which has failed," he said.

Just before Nominee Traders folded, investors trying to get money out were believed to have been told it suffered massive losses on the 2010 Soccer World Cup and Superbowl. Many say they were simply not told anything and emails were not replied to.

Pickering, now 68, has ll children to five women, and lives on the Gold Coast.

He was made an undischarged bankrupt in August last year by his former de facto's father George Luckardt.

0r.... maybe we could hear a little of (Pickering's) hobby, persecuting Prime Minister Gillard?

'Her Rights at Work'-Anne Summers

Larry Pickering has suddenly become very famous – if not infamous – after being identified by the CEO in her press conference on Thursday 23 August as someone who publishes “a vile and sexist website”. Gillard said: “for many, many months now I have been the subject of a very sexist smear campaign from people for whom I have no respect”.

What she did not say is that for many months now Pickering has bombarded not just her but every member of federal parliament and every senator on almost a daily basis with emails containing hate-filled commentary about Gillard. Often these commentaries have been accompanied by cartoons, many of which – like the one I have shown – depict Gillard naked and wearing a huge strap-on dildo.

Pickering was infamous back in the days when he was cartoonist for The Australian for producing annual calendars in which all the (then all male) politicians had extremely long penises that were used to supposedly entertaining effect. It seems that Pickering cannot envisage a prime minister without a penis – so he had to give Gillard a strap-on. When Facebook (where he publishes some of his material), forced him to stop drawing her this way, be started depicting her with a dildo thrown over her shoulder.[19]

I have seen many examples of these emails – shown to me by MPs – and I know (1) that they go to every member and senator and (2) they contain vile and disgusting images of our political leaders, most often Julia Gillard and, until his resignation from Parliament, Bob Brown.

Yet no Member of Parliament has denounced them, not in public at least. I find this almost beyond comprehension. Nor, before Gillard mentioned them at her press conference, had they been written about by anyone in the parliamentary press gallery. Surely it is newsworthy that Australia’s first female prime minister is under such constant illustrated attack. Surely it is noteworthy that the portrayals of her are obscene and indisputably sexist.

Larry Pickering?

Seems to have a lot of spare time and a passion for vilifying our PM, (based on gender attacks), and maybe, just maybe it's to deflect from his own 'business activities'?

An Operator, manipulator.
