Melbourne Apartments

Hi, I am about to embark on my first home purchase in Melbourne. Due to budget constraints and desired proximity to the city / public transport I am looking at buying an apartment. I know buyers are being warned against the inner-city apartment market due to serious over-supply, but what about area's slightly out of the city, say 5 – 10kms?

I have been looking in Newport, it seems like a nice pocket with potential, especially being so close to the bay / Williamstown. I suppose my question is what are my re-sale opportunities of apartments say in 5 years time frame, in particular something like this one:
