I am not sure if this is one of the comments by politicans that are never followed through, But if this happens it will bring the prices down I think. Any thoughts on this please?

Hey, here's a novel idea; how 'bout the Gubbmint slash some of the vast fees and charges associated with every step of a real estate/land purchase and/or build.

It seems to me that every Gubbmint person should just keep their mouths shut until they are prepared to 'fess up and admit this is one of the major contributors to real estate prices.

I've said it before about our latest PPoR build - and ours isn't exactly the Taj Mahal; but it's nice...

The GST alone on our PPoR build is a 6 figure amount...

And also ease up on the huge costs associated with providing infrastructure in an up front payment, instead staggering it over a longer period of time.

There was a report last week that government (local/state/federal) taxes make up about 40% of the cost of a new house on a block of land in a new estate.

That's the impediment.

Let him try. Until the fees and charges and taxes that accompany new land are reduced, for a lot of people it's simply not worth building.

I'm not too familiar with the Perth property market, but releasing land normally has a minimal effect on pricing. Mainly because the land is available where people don't want to live.
