HOUSE prices jumped 5.2 per cent in the three months to September - the biggest quarterly increase in 11 years.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics said today prices of established houses also rose 14 per cent over the year to September, the biggest annual rise since 1989.
Rises of eight per cent in Melbourne, 6.4 per cent in Sydney and 3.3 per cent in Canberra more than offset a fall in house prices in Darwin and Hobart.
The weighted average index of capital city prices showed house prices also rose in Adelaide, up 3.1 per cent, and were up 1.4 per cent in Perth and 1.7 per cent in Brisbane.
