painting flaky weatherboards

hi
hoping for some advice about painting a huge old victorian weatherboard. many of the boards are flaky and some are cracked. the current paint is an acrylic.

after prep, should i undercoat the whole lot or just use 2 coats of topcoat? what difference does the undercoat make? (there aren't a lot of patches of bare boards but i would spot them anyway).

would appreciate some tradie knowledge.

I would like to see couple of photos of the peeling paint and walls before I can advise you on this,

I can then give you step by step directions on how to prepare and paint.

If the timber has opened up badly due to the exposure to the sun,it "may" need an undercoat, but rarely does.;)
