Parkville, Vic

Have been looking around at inner city houses, and found that parkville seems really underpriced considering location and size of block with say compared to Carlton or Fitzroy...this place for example is huge, and is only 900-990k, http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-parkville-109692976#
compared with smaller places that need a renovation in other inner suburbs.

Is there something wrong with Parkville?

That's not Parkville proper - that is Brunswick. Don't buy there.

It's the old psychiatric hospital area which was turned into the Comm Games Village (these houses were built for housing the athletes).

The main issue is distance to transport (the trains and trams are a bit of a hike comparatively speaking) and on the "far" side from Mel Uni and the hospitals.

Shops are also far - Brunswick or other side of Flemington Rd (past the housing commision highrises) - so ironically a car is necessary.

Despite Aaron's reservations, I personally would prefer 2 x apartments in Brunswick @ $500k each or a cheaper unit/town house on Manningham St closer to Flemington Bridge station.

(Bias warning - I have an apartment on Manningham St!! )

One other thing to check on Jerky - I heard stories that part of that precinct was for housing commission - not sure if that affects your views at all.

Parkville is in a great location, for professionals who want to be close to the city. Have you considered Bayles St or Story St? Probably more expensive but apparently it's the better side of Parkville .

There's nothing 'apparent' about it - it IS the better side of Parkville.

The address might be Parkville. But it certainly isn't where I think when people mention the suburb name.

When people say Parkville they typically mean the triangle between Flemington Rd, Royal Parade and Gatehouse St.
