Found this free pdf converter. Useful for taking existing .pdf files and reducing their size. Also good for taking your existing word etc documents and putting them in a .pdf format.

Hi,

You can also setup a script utility called Ghostscript.

The beauty with this setup is you have a printer called PDFWriter and you can (from any program) "print" your output directly to PDF.

Mind you does take a little configuration to set up, here's some instructions, though there is other sources of the same configuration setup on the net.
