You HAVEN'T read my signature line, have you? (Or maybe you had, and ignored it anyway ;))

I picked 1. as "Twinkle, twinkle little star ..... etc.

2. is "A fool and his money are soon parted",

4. "All that glitters is not gold"

and 8. seems to be "Mary, Mary quite contrary ... etc"


Good for a laugh, though - but obfuscation nonetheless ;)

I have the music, Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman, which has 12 variations on the old french folk song written by Mozart.

The words of which are:
Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman,
Ce qui cause mon tournment?
Papa veut que je raisonne,

Moi, je dis que les bonbons

Which, translated is:

I have always thought it interesting, also, that Childrens Nursery rhyme music can tend to double up...

Yeah, that's sort of what I thought too, Joanna.

I thought it was being sorry "lamenting" about something too much, and about lethargy "hebetude", and about reducing your effectiveness "dissipate your competence"...

It is a difficult one.

I will post the answer tomorrow.

You don't have to wait for asy. A google search on "hebetudinous prodigality" will find an answer.

In case you were wondering asy (given my propensity to use google to answer all of life's questions), the only thing I used it for in this case was to find the exact words for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (all three verses just for good measure) and for Mary Mary Quite Contrary - just so I could be sure I got them right !

I knew I could find the answer to these on google (you can find the answer to ANYTHING on google !), but I was determined not to cheat. :cool:
 
I did susepct something Sim...

But I don't think I gave anything away that most people would have known anyway.

And if they did not know, they now know a better way to use Google.

Unaccustomed as I am to big words like hebetudinous, google, or prodigality, I wanted to "have a crack" at this one:-

Do not dissipate your competence by hebetudinous prodigality lest you subsequently lament an exiguous inadequacy.

My untrained mind has come up with (variously):-

a. Look before you leap

b. Don't cry over spilt milk

c. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face

d. Don't give up your day job !!

...... (that last one might apply to my answers....:))

How'm I going Asy??? Should I run a poll? Or a sweepstake?? Or a ...sup in a brewery?
