I would send in the bond lodgement within the time frame, and then treat them the same as you would if they broke the lease any time through the lease period.
They have to meet the costs of breaking the lease, advertising etc etc just like anybody else breaking their lease.
Have they signed the bond lodgement form. If not, then call the bond lodgement people and get advice on how to proceed, because you will probably find they won't sign it now.
I am familiar with Qld rules, not Vic, so check things out, and do it soon.
