Serge's Granny Flat Friendly Property Hunting Guide

so previously you just drop a letter in your immediate adjoining neighbours, and you can start build the very next day?

With the new 2 weeks lead time for notifying neighbours, plus 10 days for CDC approval, this means a month before you can start build a granny flat now.

Not far off a DA?

Hey Serge, it looks like you can't add an attached garage or outbuilding/sheds to granny flats anymore.

Clause 3.5 (2)(d) of the General Housing Code excludes ancillary development attached to a secondary dwelling. Can you confirm if I've interpreted that correctly?

Yes that's correct James.
You can, though, attach Ancillary Development that is 'Exempt Development' .

The Clause you're referring to only applies to specified 'Complying Development' types.
