hmmm not sure how those figures can be right Sheryn. Using the last spreadsheet that was emailed I calculate myself having a $123k net-worth (23%). I did trade back to cash the last couple of days in the week, was this taken into account?
A quick look at the figures and the difference is basically the exact value of the CXC shares I sold Thursday close, so think you may have left them out of the equation...?

Just added up all the wins and losses and came up with this total for Hobo Jo
$23,416.
Poor Lily House she will be devastated that her first position is under review due to administration error.

Know the feeling. Pretty much sat on my hands for past months as had other issues to worry about. At least i'm holding ground so my new system seems to be working so far.

Learning lesson on who purchases what is great.
Lots of books say you should 'paper trade' before using own money - I found that boring and of no use as no way can you benchmark your progress.
On the other hand if you are running a share trading game you can 'benchmark' your trading effort.

Yes and no. I've always enjoyed paper trading as for me, it's a great way to test new strategies before putting the coin into the market.
As far as benchmarking goes, I use three benchmarks;
- I compare to the returns that I could generate elsewhere,
- I compare to the ASX index (ie, what the market has done independent of my activity), and,
- I compare to other people playing the same games that I am.
For example, in our office trading game; last quarter I finished second of about twenty players with a return of just a shade over 30% for the quarter. But, from memory, the S&P200 index grew by something like 26% on its own during the same three months. So from that point of view, my strategy did ok, but not really much better than the market itself. So, I think that the strategy needs to be tested again, in a slower market, before I give it too much credit.
It's by doing that same process; test, test, apply; that I've learned what works for me and how to make a little cash out of the market. Nothing anywhere near as impressive as the pro's, but enough for me. That benchmarking has been gold in terms of working out whether I'm actually getting ahead with it all, or not.
