Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV or a new computer, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China & Japan ?
A. Shut up.

Japan tried this "handout" stimulus idea more than 10 years ago, it proved not to be very effective. Nonetheless they are trying it again now (PM with only 18% approval rating is buying votes). However all recent surveys show that the majority of the pop'n don't believe it will help and in fact are against it ! So the poor PM can't win.

So I was surprised to see Oz trying it too and that most people seem in favour of it. It'll be interesting to see what effect it produces.

Oh, its all a terrible waste of money but I'm happy to take it, I was going to put DIY cheapy laminate floors in the lounge/hallway but with the extra dosh I'm going to get some actual professionals to lay carpet.

The rest of the money can go to stimulate SA water to install me a new meter, or more appropriately to the local plumber to stimulate him to move a large tank of poo two metres to the left if the subdivision DA goes through. The local plumber is a 30ish not too bad looker so he's probably the better choice to be stimulated.
