Interest free loans of up to $10,000 will be available to Canberrans who are at risk of losing their homes.
With interest rates tipped to rise yet again before Christmas, the new Mortgage Relief Fund will provide help to people who are in danger of defaulting on their home loan because of a sudden change in circumstance such as illness or unemployment.
The ACT Government will support the fund, which is designed to help homeowners meet payments in the short term. Loans will be interest free and repayable over a five-year period.
The first repayments will not be required until six months after the assistance has been received.
