I'd start with a better engine than the 5VZ myself.... perhaps something stupidly large like a 1FZ-FE..... its been done in an MS75 crown coupe in adelaide... but with a stupidly large turbo.

My current project is a little KE70 corolla sedan, with a tough built 18R-G and a largish turbo. Build cost including purchase of the car has been over $7k so far, but spread over about 5 years.
Aiming for low 12s, and maybe an 11 in the future. The engine is more than capable - but my driving and the rest of the car would probably need upgrading.
It isnt running yet though. Still have to modify the crossmember, make up some engine mounts and gearbox x-member, then an exhaust manifold.... and then its relatively smooth sailing...

Yeah.... cars are a hobby of mine too. I dont spend that much money on them anymore, just whenever i have some spare funds i go out and buy the next part needed.
My main priority is still building wealth.

i've done my conversions over time as well - this one just fits inside NCOP regs.

not much wrong with the 5VZFE - the 3.4L V6 from the Prado - it's just an iron block like the 2UZFE.

i've seen that MS75 - awesome bit of kit but SO not legal in the car of choice for me.

however, i reckon that'd be a nice bit of engineering in an older holden.
