Taking 'Freestyling' to a new level

From: Jeremy Laws

Had to put this in, though it in no way implies TW, 'freestyling' (is this now a trade mark?), or any meeting/people associated with our Aussie property friends had anything to do with the attacks.

As my American friends say 'How to Make out like a Bandit'

Osama Bin Laden,
Inherits almost $1b AUD from mummy and daddy.
Gets Aid from USA to fight Russians (sorta kinda like Saddam).
Gets annoyed at USA traipsing all over middle east.
Makes vast sums of money from legitimate enterprises selling his wares to USA
Uses none of this (that goes to his personal fortune) but gets 'investors' to sponsor a US campaign for his militant offshoots.
Promises them a great stock return.
Organises big time terrorist attack, which would involve hi value/emotive companies.
Makes massive cash on cash return (using and supplying information) through and with his 'investors' by shorting stock in affected companies - Airlines/insurance!

You gotta admire the planning!

I hear what you are saying, but this forum is not really the place.

In my opinion, any spin, other than negative on the particular individual is counter productive.

Call me narrow-minded if you like, but that is the way I feel.

5000+ people dead. I do not admire the planning, I am appalled by it.

Dear Phillip,

Do you like or not, but you will be one of those people (as well us) who pays for it, directly or indirectly.

I am sorry buddy, but I want to know how much it is going cost us.

I perfectly understand that word "buddy" crumbles your face, but it is only minor disadvantage compare to what all of us (including you) are going to experience in near future.
I mean like - lose of jobs, lose of income, consumer confidence plummeting,...

Sorry buddy, but I want to know all of it. Where money comes from and where they are going to. Funny enough but I just want to see a balance sheet.

Serge.

* Here is my letter to Phillip Adams Radio National ABC. We seem to establish a relatively good but short relationship with Phillip. However, I did not hear any reply on my latest letter. Here it is:

Dear Phillip,

I hear people talking on the Web about roll of media in modern society or in fact failure.

Here is my view on it.

As you detected in your earlier programs - American society is moving towards right wing conservative values: politically, economically, sexually (sexual revolution), etc.

I also think that journalists do have important role to play as well in US, Australia and all around the world.

Not necessary go the whole way to the right but, rather stay on the centre and be more realistic. I know - asking media to be more realistic?

Yes, it looks like generation of baby boomers enjoyed the fruits of previous generations for too long. They have lost common sense, spend all family silver and pushed us into debt (in moral terms).

They are forgetting that they forefathers fought so hard for the future of the nation and the whole world.

I think they, baby boomers, including journalists as well, of that generation, lost sense of reality in pursuing unrealistic ideas and letting the weeds grow in the garden. They did allow the backyard get cluttered and ceiling in the house to sag. They enjoyed the ride, did not want to fight and did not care about the future. All they did care was about themselves and instant (on the spot) enjoyment such as retirement. They have created one-day (today's) environment with no view for the future. They became mentally "fat". They did not want to get out of the comfort zone.

It reminds us the story with Mr. Taylor (USA) and Sakharov (USSR). First of all, them (scientists) and us - we all, do work and fight so hard and try to secure our future and then we feel guilty of our own achievements and trying very hard to get away from it all or deny all those achievements.

It is true that wealth stays in the family only for 3 generations on average and in same circumstances in some strong families maximum for 9 generations; and then it is all back to square one again, have to start from beginning.

It will take some time for new generation to come in and clear the back yard and do major renovation in the house.

As one of the officers of the US intelligence community just sad recently on TV - What do we want? Do we want to get rid of the rats or the sewer? We all want to get rid of rats but no one wants to deal with the sewer. May be it is time to roll up the sleeves and get dirty again.

Yes it is true, lots of journalists asking them selves a question - how did it happened, did we missed anything in modern society? But they will not admit they own failure. They have misunderstood the current needs of the society. They have long way to go as yet and have lots of rethinking to do in order to reflect correctly on the environment, ideas and people around us.

They, journalists, have to be bit more aware of what is happening in the world and be more realistic, I think.

As for us - people on the streets, do not just relay on someone else's opinion but think for your self and talk to other people in your as well as others communities and try to find the solutions.

People,
If anyone was appalled by the WTC tragedy in Oz then I have a reasonable right to claim a place. 1) I spent 4 years of my life flying 767's, which includes a 757 endorsement. If you think I think flying into buildings is a fun thing to do then you have major issues. 2) I only found out for sure about 3 days ago that a good friend of mine was not an F/A on the United flight that hit the WTC. Her preferred flt was the 'trans con' JFK-LAX/SFO. She flew it 3 times/week. 3)I was in LA for the whole episode, and in fact I was scheduled to fly to JFK at 0800 Pacific time on that day. As I had not taken my camera to 'The Top of The World' last time I went - I would have been there the following day. 4) I am a property owner and share market investor, and as such see any malicious damage in a different light to the 'un-owning' population. I have other points I could make, like asbestoses and the smell of decay that now permeates Battery Park/Wall St area hardly makes for nice thoughts. I am also in an industry that is likely to be very hard hit when people stop travelling. I am appalled that people think I may have been making too light of this, but certain things are worthy of note. That is all I tried to point out. It helps to have a sense of humour!

I don't see any humour in any aspect of the situation, and I feel safe in guessing the 6000+ that have died so far were not thinking of the funny side of their buildings being hit by two planes as they died

Grant,

You're right there's nothing funny about it, but all people handle things differently, some weep or cry, some get angry, some get frightened, other's curl up into a ball and shut out the world. And others try to maintain their sanity over the terror of what we witness but trying to make light of it.

For when we do think about those involved and what could possibly go through their minds, the pilots, the passengers, those that jumped and those that were in the building during the collapse. If we try and put ourselves in their shoes, we may not be able to go on living. We may feel the terror so much we may never be able to get back to our lives. If that occurs, then the terrorist, have truly succeeded in their mission.

I like to remember a quote - not sure of the source...

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"

When fear and anxiety gets you down... go find your spouse / children / parents / siblings / friends / whoever is close to you, and make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them, and how much you love them.

It always pains me to hear of people who lost loved ones and live in guilt because of things they never got to say.

The song by the band Mike and the Mechanics, "The Living Years" always brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it.

When the world around us crumbles, it is the people who matter the most - not the things we own, not the status we have, not the power we hold.

Well Said Sim !!!!

Some may only think of making $$$

However @ the end of the day family & relationships really make up the difference between the drive to dollars and the balance of life.

And I think that Jeremy is feeling the pain as much, if not more than all of us.

Thank you too Anon, Sim and particularly Michael G for your positive (and diplomatic) input to this thread.

Everyone who regularly visits this site knows that one of the great things about it is that you can mix with and enjoy the company of people who are nothing like you, people you'd never normally meet. We are everyone one of us affected by the sheer horror of what happened but because we are such a diverse group, react and deal with it in completely different ways. Which is what Michael was saying.

I'd like to see just a little more tolerance shown here, especially as emails/posts are always open to misinterpretation, delivered as they are without the benefit of body language, intonation etc. It's obvious really.

And I'd like to add to all this my support of Jeremy who I count as a good friend. We should be sensitive to the fact that the horror is perhaps greater for him because he is a pilot. My brother is also deeply affected because he is a fireman who specialises in rescue.

Let's try to focus on what's really important.

Michele

Dear Anon,

Sorry that previous message was bit too long and complex. I probably should have give bit more background. My apologies.

What I am trying to say is that – now we can seat back and relax a bit. I am glad to report that this the end of Osama-Bin-Laden and his organization as we know it and hopefully we can invest now safely in Australia as well as overseas.

Once media suffers a loss and gets properly involved in the discussion, it makes much easier to use combine effort and get to the end of that tunnel.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/0109/24/biztech/biztech14.html

I was bit concerned that too many people (including media) are talking about – cooperate with terrorist, understand their needs and desires, give’m chance to prove them selves, they humans after all, they are just a victims of the politics, etc. etc.

Well, now media and military are going to trash them and their support bases out. We hope.

By the way did you know that we are all criminals, including you?
Well, yes according to C-41 (11? – protest group, those once who disrupt trade conferences all around the world). They say - How could it be possible, when so many people do not have anything at all and some people can and do owe the land? It is appalling. Land belongs to all people not just to one or two individuals. They do go even further and say that it is a crime to owe land.
Also now they have changed they approach and say – we do not have to concentrate on trade conferences any more…
Instead they will concentrate their effort on war against the war.
Next protest meeting in QLD during CHOGOM, you will see it on TV.

Here you are – Congratulations, welcome to the club…

Serge.

Hello Sergey,

A couple of things. I do not mind being called Buddy. Why you would think that would crumble my face is perplexing. Secondly,You talk about jobs, money etc. You say you want to know it all. So do all of us. However I think it may be a very good idea to read "The Wife" in her reply about setting priorities. Some very salient advice.

Regards

Sorry Phillip, you win.

Talking about know as much as possible - Did you hear by any chance couple of days ago on the radio, the said that Australian Federal Government will provide $10b. as war indemnity insurance for Australian airlines in case if something does happen? Which is good, they might need it (hopefully not, but you never know).

I did not hear anything about property investment though. Is there any war indemnity insurance for investors, anything at all?…

Would be nice to spend that money somewhere else and not to chase idiots all around the globe, but what can you do.

It reminds me that argument we had earlier on the forum that Real Estate Agents do have to make living and we have to help them to get it right, to help them make the most out of it (or us?).

Oh man...

It is funny world out there…

Serge.
