Tax deductable items purchased with gift cards

This is probably a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway....

The scenario is if I redeem my credit card points to get multiple $100 Myer gift cards, and then use those gift cards to purchase a laptop which used for business purposes, how would that be treated for tax purposes?

Is there any way to make it all tax deductable?

I'm no accountant but I doubt you will get away with that one.
I converted some to vouchers for a tyre place once, got all new tyres on the work ute and the receipt had $0 on it with 'voucher xxx' so couldn't claim it anyway.
Now I convert to movie tickets and take the family out, its free but they still get you at the snack bar:rolleyes:

I think it would depend how you get a receipt. If it's a voucher for a good or service rather than a dollar amount, then no. So if you get a voucher for a free printer, for example, then no.

But if you get a voucher for $100, and you buy a printer for $249 and the receipt says payment $149 (other) plus $100 gift voucher, then I think the gift voucher is just a payment method - like credit card or whatever - and it seems logical to me that the entire amount would be claimable.
