Tiling - Costs in QLD

Hi there, well we have settled on some fantastic tiles for the two new builds, both 600*600 porcelain gloss internal, and 600*600 "sandstone look" exterior.

We have our own tiler, however I am a bit concerned he is charging quite a premium compared to some other numbers I have heard thrown around recently for similar jobs. He has quotes 55+GST per m2 for these tiles.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this number? This is the first project we have decided to do the tiles ourself rather than just cost it in the build.

Thanks again,

Hi William,
Yes this is a reasonable price. Tilers charge more to lay Porcelain than ceramic especially if they have rectified edges. Rectified edges literally means they have been corrected and refined (cut) after firing to ensure their size and shape is perfect. This means they are laid closer together with smaller grout joints, giving them a sleeker and more modern look. It's obviously harder for them to do this than a 5mm gap between the tiles.
