Timeline, milestones.

Yes you are right of course, and I keep telling myself that the houses I buy now would equal the cost of all 4 of my original houses but I still feel like I've not achieved much over the past few years. Would probably feel better if the original ones had risen in value more than what they have. Sometimes I feel as though I've wasted so much time and money.

Its very motivating to revisit our journeys that's for sure.

Don't worry too much. Everyone has their own journey. Bigblu got bitten by a shark! I'm the only one who started after 30 in the list. Think about where you are now compared to where you were before (or where you could have been) and see what you can do from now on.

Good input. Plus, none of the time or money is wasted if knowledge and lessons are accumulated as at result.

Must say though Devank, you invested heavily and aggressively in your education prior to (and while) investing in property. And still managed to start at what I believe is/was the avg age of Aussie first home buyers. Brilliant effort both intellectually and financially.

Yes exactly, everyone has their own journey in life! Not everyone wants a high salary & the stress that goes along with it.

I'm doing well compared to others with a similar medical condition as me. Some are not even able to work. I am very thankful i can work. I work full time on an average salary. I have a great work life balance & have lots of time & energy for sports, exercise & social life.

My goal is to end up with 7 ips when I retire. Actually let me re-phrase that as an affirmation. I will end up with 7 ips.

I will sell a few ips when i retire in my 60's so i can pay down all the debt. I'm going to live off rent from my 3 unencumbered ips and live in my unencumbered ppor. I'll also have some super.

I'll go part time when I hit 60. Retire at 65.

The next ip I buy will be in 2015, and yes I have a mental condition. I'm not afraid or embarrased anymore to say this. :). There is such a stigma still, I kept it a secret on here all this time.

1975 was the year :p
1993 reached Australian shores at the age of 17
2000 finished uni
2002 PPOR
2003 married
25/5/2005 Liverpool wins Champions League No. 5
2005 IP 1
2007 divorced and backpacking around the world, back to IP 1 and no PPOR
2008 married
2009 accidentally discovered SS when wife asked me to google a music title
2010 IP 2 and proud father of a son life beginning to make sense then wife got sick
2011 IP 3-4
2012 IP 5-7
2013 IP 8 and boy again! But wife got sick again. Liverpool is still waiting for a premier league title. Life is still a struggle with ups and downs.
No PPOR and happily renting

Goals in life: Get wife's health back to normal in 5 years. Net worth of 5mil in 10 years (and work only if I still want to). Get the boys into my religion (Liverpool FC) and property investing in 15 years. Stay alive for another 20 years after that.

Thanks again for all the responses. I really find this fascinating:

Avg: 24.1

Last I heard the average age of a first home buyer in Australia was 31. Not sure if that only applies to owner-occupiers though. Either way, we're presently averaging 7 years younger.

I'm not sure how relevant that is though, as some of us are a lot older than others which skews the statistics somewhat.

For instance, I left school at the end of year 10. Did one year at Tech, then joined the fulltime work force. People bought properties earlier and started their families earlier. Hubby also left school after year 10 & did an apprenticeship.

Now, kids leave school at the end of year 12, spend 4 years at Uni & then start work. Many don't think about families or homes until later.

You're right. The average age of first home buyers in the 70s was about 25 if I remember right. I had a look at the year of birth compared to purchase age this morning for all SSers. Apart from a couple of anomalous youngsters, the older folks are, the younger they bought which conforms to expectations.

If enough people reply from each decade of birth, I might be able to break it down to to avg age of 60s kids, 70s kids, 80s and so on.

Slow start but trying my best to catch up

I'll share since it's really short!!

1985: Born
2009: Graduated (Bachelor and Master) - wasted too much time in Uni :(
2011: PPoR
2013: IP1
2013: IP2
2013: IP3 (bought with Fiancee)
30th November 2013: Got married!
2013: IP4 (house and land package: settlement on Friday)

As you can see, I changed strategy from paying off PPoR to using the money in offset to buy more IPs in 2013. Hopefully it is not a bad time in the cycle to enter the market. Wish I could've started earlier!

And by using money in offset I hope you mean paying down PPOR debt and then debt recycling it out for maximum taxation benefits and minimisation of non deductible debt. :)
