yes agree, over the years ive learnt to choose your battles,

obviously breaking windows wont get him any money, but anger and the feeling of being ripped off can lead to anything

yeah that is true. you have to be careful though certain trades. some who are strapped for money would just act irrationally. In victoria there was plasterer who murdered a couple over a debt just last year.

what a waste! getting killed over a few hundred dollars, so much waste

on a good note, I hired a handyman from gumtree last week,

for the grand total of $324 including materials

put in a new clothes line
Put in a new mail box and post and cement
removed a blind,
installed a new blind
tried to fix a light fixture (but found out had faulty wiring so couldnt do it)
replaced 2 power point covers
replaced two tap heads


and did a great job too!

I am super impressed

sorry, he lives about 40 mins from wagga,

but if its a big job, he may be ok travelling

Depends on his definition of big and whether he can do it, does an approx. up to $3k worth big (inc. material)?

How do you list your job in gumtree? Any specific format that work? I might try it :-\

I am really paranoid about the types of tradies or jobs you get from gumtree.
To be perfectly frank, the best ones never advertise and are hard to book. They get business by word of mouth and have a packed timetable.

I had an awesome tradie visit today.

He rang before he arrived, arrived on time, did a great job and cleaned up after he left.

Even charged me less than he had quoted and was significantly cheaper than his competition.

Funny that, my friend had the complete opposite today. Tradie was 1 hour late and left a big dump in the toilet. Couldn't finish because didn't have the right parts.

Just beware of handymen / builders / roofers with Irish accents offering cheap prices with 'stuff left over from the last job'.

Had a tradie turn up 20 mins early today, lucky I was there early as well.

I use a property maintenance guy who has a great team of tradies and then finally found a decent elec / air con installer after trying about five others who never even wanted to turn up.

OMG!!! When I built my new house one of the trades had a massive dump in the en suite toilet. The sewerage was not yet connected.
